Sofia, capital of Bulgaria, is a fascinating city. It retains a unique blend of Western and Central European architecture, imposing monuments and a number of well-preserved structures dating back to the Roman and Byzantine period.

With a vibrant music scene and extensive nightlife options, by day the city’s cultural heritage is on display in over a dozen significant museums, and galleries.
Sofia's attraction does not lie in checking off a list of must-see attractions, but in wandering its streets at will, stopping to drink the occasional espresso at one of the myriad open-air bars and cafes that have sprung up in and around the parks.

The hard edges of the city are softened with cobblestone streets east of the central square leading to verdant parks and towering trees, filled with the unexpected sound of birdsong.

Siclial Work and Psychology - what to choose?

Counseling psychologists use techniques such as interviews and tests to be able to advise people about their problems. They work in places such as hospitals, individual and group practices and schools. There is a lot like clinical psychology, as they have very similar things as counsel people who work in psychiatric facilities and do some research.Counseling psychologists, however, usually not with people who are sick, but those who just have casual advice, while a clinical psychologist working with the mentally ill. Just a few of the wonderful aspects of Sofia include low prices for everything from rent and food to consumer goods, Bulgaria's magnificent architecture and cultural heritage, and the friendliness of the Bulgarians themselves.

Bulgaria itself is not usually considered at all when one plans for a vacation or a place to move, temporarily or permanently. Its status as a premiere destination for wandering Americans is nowhere near more popular destinations like Mexico, France or Canada. But just because Sofia, Bulgaria isn't as popular with the expatriates doesn't mean you should dismiss it.

Bulgaria joined the European Union on January 1, 2007, and its economy continues to improve as time goes on. If Sofia is too cosmopolitan for you, try one of the smaller cities, such as Burgas. They offer all of the features of a big city like Sofia, but with a larger ratio of historic sites and natural features, which many expatriates consider to be important.

Many expatriates are shocked to learn that Bulgaria, despite being much poorer than western counterparts such as Britain and the United States, has a smaller ratio of criminal activity. Sofia, Bulgaria is a calm, low crime capital city and expatriates will immediately notice just how calm most of the country is.

Financial Info

Likewise, you will receive each day to see businesses in the newspapers and on billboards that your face screaming in the promotion of the credentials of debt elimination program.

But one important aspect that you should remember that a good debt help company will not come looking for you.Instead, after they are executed. In the majority of cases it is seen that a good debt relief company is the customer to obtain through referrals. Some of the legitimate credit card companies are now cut off imposing other restrictions, including higher interest rates and penalty rates and in some cases established credit lines for many holders of credit cards.

Credit Counseling is an effective way to evaluate your finances. The credit counselor will help you better manage your debts by suggesting ways out of debt.As far as debt consolidation is concerned, it helps you if you handle multiple demands and if they are out of control.

Reduced rate of interest and lower monthly payments are, what you enjoy in the event of a debt consolidation and debt management plans.Debt settlement or credit card debt arbitration is for debt consolidation, if it has failed, decided to get results. In debt settlement, the total amount of debt you owe is reduced to a great extent. So you can call a debt settlement type of debt reduction process.

Bulgaria Transportation

If you are going abroad to Bulgaria, either as a tourist, or installation for a short period or long term, then you want to first become familiar with how your car move and travel in country. You have several different options regarding the mode of transport across the country.

However, you may not get what you expect, especially as regards the system of transit, which is less than desirable compared to those of most European countries. Founded over 7,000 years ago, Bulgaria's modern capital testifies to the country's eternal bond between past and present. Monuments to its rich Thracian, Roman, Bulgar and Ottoman history rub shoulders with modem-day edifices of cosmopolitan city life. Over 250 historic landmarks and architectural monuments blend in with the city's modern skyline.
Despite various Byzantine ruins and mosques attesting to a long, colourful history, many of Sofia's historic grandeur has been lost. Some of its most impressive architecture post-dates Bulgaria's Liberation of 1878. Wide tree-lined boulevards house numerous turn-of-the-century stuccoed buildings. Sofia's protective fortress walls for 12 centuries, straddle the city centers where remnants of the original Serdica settlement (2nd Century) still lie. Major landmarks include the St George Rotunda, part of a large archeological complex with rare Roman architectural features; the Sveta Sofia Basilica which inspired the city's coat of arms; the Alexandar Nevski Cathedral, whose magnificent icons and frescoes are world famous; and the Boyana Church on Sofia's outskirts - a listed UNESCO building - a fine example of Medieval architecture with unique wall paintings.
Other tourist attractions include: the Church of Sveta Nedelya, the Banya Bashi Mosque (16th century) and nearby Turkish baths, the Hall covered market and clock tower Synagogue, the National History Museum, the Sveta Petka Saamardzhiiska Church, the Russian Church, the Alexandar Batenberg Square, the flea market, antique shops and cafes around the Kristal Square, the tree-lined Alexsandar Nevski Square, named after its famous Cathedral, and the international art collection housed in the St. St. Cyril and Methodius Foundation.
The area surrounding Sofia is rich in natural beauty. The tranquillity and charm of Mount Vitosha offers ideal spots for picnics or walking in the summer and superb skiing in the winter. The picturesque villages at its foothills are just a short tram or bus ride away from the bustling capital.

Old Sofia.

Sofia is one of the oldest settlements in Europe. See the church, and you are bound to be impressed by its fine style and typical Novgorod frescoes.
What you won't read anywhere and will definitely miss unless you know about it is the chapel to St. Seraphim in the backyard. Sofians come here because they believe that the saint can work miracles. He can cure all ills and make all wishes come true if you light a candle, stand still by the sarcophagus and drop behind it a piece of paper on which you have written your wish. This was in the day of Emperor Constantine the Great.
Strongly attached to Serdica, the Emperor often called the city his Rome and even intended to proclaim it capital of the Eastern Roman Empire. Ultimately, he did not - but he nevertheless built magnificent edifices for the grand ceremonies during his visits. The only building to survive completely is the St. George Rotunda, famous for its original architecture and unique frescoes.
Painted several times in different ages (the 4th, 10th to 12th and 14th centuries), the majestic figures illustrate the development of monumental painting over several centuries, making the Rotunda one of the gems of Bulgarian and East European culture.
SHORT TAKE: During an official visit in August 1994, the Governor of Tennessee was taken on a tour of some Sofia landmarks. Short of time, however, he had to choose between the National Museum of History and the St. George Rotunda. Built in the late 14th century, its frescoes date from three different ages (the 15th, 17th and 19th centuries).
Art historians say they are an invaluable illustration of the best traditions in mediaeval painting and a testament to the development of Bulgarian art during the period of Ottoman domination. For their part, architects cite the church as a model of mediaeval construction with its fine proportions and rhythmic forms. To the lay public, the St. Petka is just a discreet gem amidst the flea market in the subway before the Central Department Store.

St Sophia Basilica

The St Sophia Basilica is associated with Serdica's last days of glory in the 6th century. Actually, this was the third time the church rose from the ashes, having been previously destroyed twice by Goths and Huns.
In the Second Bulgarian Empire (12th to 14th century), it acquired the status of a metropolitan church, giving the city its latest name: Sofia. By a twist of fortune, however, it was turned into a mosque in the 16th century and almost destroyed in two successive earthquakes thirty years later.
Restored after 1878, this church is now one of the most valuable pieces of early Christian architecture in the Balkans, according to scholars. According to popular lore, St Sophia's miraculous powers protected the lovely building over the centuries, warding off human invasions and natural disasters to keep the church as an instance of the elegant, austere and symmetrical architecture of the age.

St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.

The magnificent St. Alexander Nevsky Memorial Church, built to the designs of architect Pomerantsev from 1904 to 1912, is one of the finest pieces of 20th century architecture in Sofia. As a compensation, the murals (partially preserved today) turned the interior into a glittering gallery. The spirit is here alive of the aristocratic Turnovo School. The colouring is respectfully solemn, the drawing elegant, to the point of exquisiteness, the figures are lofty and exalted.
The artists of the Kremikovtsi Church were no blind imitators of traditional methods. In the overall composition of the murals, they introduced a new element which renewed the art of the time, and became traditional. This is the richly ornamented frieze of the waist-length figures of saints and martyrs, introduced for the first time, which separated the "classic upright saints" from subject scenes diversifying and enriching the general picture.
Kremikovtsi Monastery also contains some valuable examples of calligraphic art which was particularly perfected here during the 15th century, when the Sofia School of Literature was created and developed at Dragalevtsi, Kremikovtsi, Kokalyane, German and other monasteries. The so-called Kremikovtsi Gospel is an example of it.

Folk-Style Restaurants in Sofia.

BAY GENTCHO
15, Kniaz Dondukov Blvd.,Tel.: 81 74 74

VODENITSATA (WATERMILL)
Dragalevtsi, next to the cabel-lift station,Tel.: 671 058

BOYANSKO HANCHE
Boyana residential districtTel.: 563 016

GOROUBLYANSKO HANCHE (GOROUBLYANE INN)
Goroublyane residential district,Tel.: 781 260

SHOUMAKO
on the ring road between theBistritsa and Simeonovo residential district's

ZLATNATA RIBKA (THE LITTLE GOLDEN FISH)
Pancharevo residential district,Tel.: 992 31 77

KOSHARITE
1, Vaptzarov St.,Tel.: 622 894

International Cuisine in Sofia.

ROUSSALKA RESTAURANT AND SUMMER GARDEN RESTAURANT
Bulgarian, French, Italian and Asian cuisine47, Cherkovna St.Tel.: 435 257, 437 679
GLORIA PALACE
(restaurant, tennis court, fitness centre, swimming pool)51, N. The Black Sea area, too, is an important viticultural region, Bourgas, Pomorie and Varna being its three main centers. The smallest viticultural region in Bulgaria - the area around Melnik famous for its full-bodied red wine - is known for its specific microclimate.

Bulgaria Cuisine

Gourmets have long since esteemed the merits of Bulgarian cuisine with the verdict that it is tasty, spicy and varied, appealing to one and all. Indeed, who would not like the abundance of fresh vegetables and fruits, juicy meat, grilled or served with piquant sauces, mouth-watering vegetarian dishes, simmered slowly on low heat, the banitsa ( cheese pie) which simply melts in your mouth, and famous Bulgarian yogurt? The Bulgarian "culinary" geography abounds in delicious specialties and exotic dishes: Bansko-style kapama (meat and vegetables stewed in an earthenware dish), Rhodope cheverme ( lamb roasted on a spit over an open fire), Thracian katmi ( a special type of pancake) and Dobroudjanska banitsa, Danube fish soup and Sozopol-style mussels.
The cosy, typically Bulgarian folk-style restaurants will tempt you with Shopska salad and chilled grape brandy, stuffed vine leaves or peppers, kavarma the Miller's Way, monastery-style hotchpotch, moussaka and kebab. The smell of oven-fresh bread rolls is mixed with the fragrance of savoury. Thinly sliced loukanka (flat dry sausage) from Smyadovo, pastarma, feta and yellow cheese are temptingly arranged on ceramic plates. The delicate white wines Dimyat, Misket and Riesling are followed by full reds such as Merlot, Cabernet and Gamza. Cups of steaming coffee are served with sweet jam, pancakes with honey and walnuts or baklava.

Bulgaria, Cuisine

One more hotel of Sofia Bulgaria

Central Hotel Forum
Hotel Chain: Minotel Hotel Central Forum is located 10 minutes by car from the city center and close to most of the important, administrative buildings, banks trade centers, museums, cultural and architectural monuments. Through the centuries, many peoples have inhabited it and added to its rich and diverse history. Numerous Neolithic villages have been discovered in the area, while a chalocolithic settlement has been recently discovered in the very center of modern Sofia.
The St. Sofia Church, a three-nave basilica built in the late 5th century AD (Foto)
The Thracian Serdi tribe settled here in the 7th century BC and gave the first recorded name of Sofia -- Serdica. The Byzantines called it Triaditsa and the Slavs - Sredets. The modern city of Sofia was named in the 14th century after the basilica St. Sofia. In Greek, word sofia means wisdom. In the 3rd century AD, the Romans built strong walls around Serdica, their capital of Inner Dacia and an important stopping point on the Roman road from Naisus (present Nish, Yugoslavia) to Constantinople.
Today there are many archaeological sites in Sofia, that display the city's diverse history - the castle gates and towers of Serdica, public buildings and streets thousands of years old. A large part of the ancient city of Serdica is underneath important modern buildings. The ancient city council (bulefteris) is hidden under the "Sheraton" hotel, while a number of basilicas are below the National Historical Museum. The Roman thermal baths are under the Sofia Mineral Baths and a Roman residence with elaborate mosaics is below the "Rila" hotel.
After the Hun invasion of 441, the town was rebuilt by the Byzantines. The Slavs gave Sredets a key role in the First Bulgarian Empire, then in 1018 the Byzantines retook Triaditsa. At the end of the 12th century, the Bulgarians returned and Sredets became a major trading center of the Second Bulgarian Empire. The Turks captured Sofia in 1382 and made it the center of the Rumelian beylerbeyship. The city declined during the feudal unrest of the 19th century, but with the establishment of the Third Bulgarian Empire in 1879, Sofia once again became the capital of Bulgaria.

The ancient St. George rotunda behind theSheraton Hotel

The National Art Gallery
Rapidly the city's image changed from an Oriental, to a European. Today many streets, buildings, parks, and even whole neighborhoods preserve the architectural style from the turn of the century. Between 1879 and 1939, the population of Sofia grew from 20 000 to 300 000, while today 1 250 000 people live in Sofia.
Since ancient times the city was famous for the abudance of cold and thermal mineral water springs in and around it. The water is still available today and is praised for its numerous qualities. Springs may be found in the city center, as well as in the neighbourhoods: Kniazevo, Gorna Bania, Bankia, Ovcha Kupel and Ivaniane.
