Vibrant Music Scene in Sofia

The city’s oldest building is the 4th-century Rotunda of Sveti Georgi, but as one of the youngest capitals of Europe (it was only declared the administrative center in 1879), most of the city's historic buildings date from the 18th and 19th century. Sofia, capital of Bulgaria, is a fascinating city. It retains a unique blend of Western and Central European architecture, imposing monuments and a number of well-preserved structures dating back to the Roman and Byzantine period.

With a vibrant music scene and extensive nightlife options, by day the city’s cultural heritage is on display in over a dozen significant museums, and galleries.
Sofia's attraction does not lie in checking off a list of must-see attractions, but in wandering its streets at will, stopping to drink the occasional espresso at one of the myriad open-air bars and cafes that have sprung up in and around the parks.

The hard edges of the city are softened with cobblestone streets east of the central square leading to verdant parks and towering trees, filled with the unexpected sound of birdsong.
